Making the water safe and clean could have been done but the Mexican Government chose to do nothing to save the Axolotl For more information Click Here  The Axolotl is also known as: Mexican Water Dragon.

How to ship your Water Dragon (Axolotl)

Here is what you need

1.  Styrofoam Box (Get a free one from a small tropical fish store)
2.  1.5 milliliter flat plastic bags (get it from a tropical fish store)
3.  Rubber bands
4.  Frozen bottle of water (use when the weather is above 72 degrees)
5.  Plastic bags filled with air, so that the bags with Axolotls will not moving around during shipping
6.  Box Tape

First stop feeding your Axolotl for 2 days before you ship them. This helps prevent their waste from spoiling the water while they are in transit.

Next place the Axolotl in 1.5 milliliter flat plastic bags, you can get the bags from a tropical fish store. You bag size should be around 8” x 15”, but the longer the bag is the better. Put only one Axolotl in each bag. Then fill the bag with no more than 1/3 full of water make sure that water level is over the Axolotl and 2/3 air. A minimum amount of water is necessary because Axolotl are air breathers. Each bag should be pumped up (use a bike pump) with air.

bag

Then twist the end of the bag and bend over in half (doubling up the twisted end). Use a rubber band to tie and secure the bag. Then put in a 2nd bag it in the opposite direction to eliminate any corners of the bag where the Axolotl could get trap in, also helps to prevent air and water leaks when you double bag it.

Your shipping box should be made of Styrofoam this will help insulate your axolotl from temperature changes En Route. You can get a used box for free from a small pet store that sells fish, the large pet stores recycle their boxes (PetSmart).

Styro

Fill the box up with plastic bags filled with air so that the bags with Axolotls will not moving around during shipping and or you can use packing peanuts too. Put a frozen bottle of water in you shipping box if the weather is above 70 degrees. This will lower the temperature inside the box and lower the Axolotl metabolism during the trip. Tape all box seams with box tape. By packing your Axolotl correctly this should help minimize stress to the Axolotl during shipping.

Ship via United States Postal Service – Priority Mail 2-3 day Service.
